Assessment experience for candidates

Thalento is an assessment platform for HR teams and companies that wish to assess and guide candidates through their selection process. Our brief focused specifically on the candidate section: the actual assessments that people have to complete. We reviewed the user flow, the user experience and the UI, whilst also giving the branding a refresh. A key consideration was that the platform should not only be branded as Thalento, but also easily adaptable to the corporate identity of clients who send the assessments to their candidates.

Imagine & define

Cut out the friction, focus on the test

The existing workflow had already been reviewed internally by Thalento, and the existing screens could largely serve as a basis. Our focus was on removing friction and making the route to the assessment shorter and clearer. There were too many login options, switching languages wasn’t straightforward, a mandatory check of personal data added extra steps, and long pages of terms and regulations made the starting point unnecessarily cumbersome.

We have therefore redesigned the login page as an onboarding and marketing landing page. This way, the initial step no longer feels like a tedious, obligatory hurdle, but rather an opportunity to get candidates excited about the company behind the test.

Design & build

Smart choices, only what’s necessary

We have simplified the process by displaying steps more intuitively and skipping them where possible. For example, personal data is only displayed when there are actually mandatory fields missing, and even then we only show what is necessary.

An overview that inspires confidence

We also made the assessment process more predictable by introducing an overview of all the tests that are ready, including estimated time, status, order and deadline. Candidates can immediately see what’s coming up, what’s already been done and what still needs to be done. Whilst completing the tests, there is also a clear indication of time and progress, so you retain a sense of control.

Screen 6

A fresh UI within technical constraints

Visually, we developed a fresh UI that aligns with Thalento’s branding, featuring clear components, typography and layout guidelines. At the same time, we took into account the limitations of the survey tooling, which meant we deliberately made only minor adjustments to the design of the tests themselves and focused on maximising the benefits in terms of layout, navigation and clarity.

For implementation, we provided high-resolution designs for larger screens, plus a compact design system that the IT team can use to develop the rest of the platform consistently.

Screen 9

Use & engage

White labelling without redesign

White labelling was a key requirement. We designed the system so that clients can apply their own branding without disrupting the design. This includes colours, logos, fonts, background images and stylistic choices such as border radius.

The revamped homepage also helps to retain candidates. By cleverly combining onboarding and branding, the process feels faster, friendlier and more relevant – which is important in a context where first impressions play a key role in determining whether someone feels motivated to continue with an employer.

Screen 7

Shorter workflow, greater control, ready to scale

The candidate section of the platform has become simpler, clearer and more user-friendly. Fewer steps, a clearer overview and a welcome that invites rather than deters. At the same time, the UI is ready for implementation and can be scaled to clients thanks to white labelling, enabling Thalento to deploy the platform more widely without having to redesign it from scratch each time.
