Pryme - Jaarraport

An annual report that actually remains readable

Pryme asked Studio Fox to build a platform that would allow them to publish their comprehensive annual report online every year, neatly formatted and easy to navigate for the board and investors. It needed to combine the convenience of a digital document with the reliability of a traditional PDF and printed version. We designed and developed the platform from scratch, based on Craft CMS, which we set up and configured to work perfectly for this type of long-form publication.

From lengthy text to a clear structure

The key question was simple: how do you make a very long report manageable? We organised the content into logical chapters and devised a structure that works for different reading styles. Some visitors want to scroll and read it as a narrative, whilst others want to go straight to a specific section, such as financials or governance. That is why we built the experience around two routes: reading via the page flow and targeted navigation via a comprehensive table of contents. The need for a downloadable PDF and a print version was also taken into account from the outset.

A document experience with smart navigation

We developed an interface that brings a sense of calm and clarity, with a strong focus on typography, white space and hierarchy. The table of contents is designed for lengthy content and remains user-friendly without becoming overwhelming. We deliberately gave the desktop and mobile versions different menu structures, ensuring that navigation and finding content remains intuitive on every screen. At the top, there is always a clear option to download the full report as a PDF. Craft CMS was set up with content types and fields suited to annual reports, so that Pryme can build a new edition every year without having to fiddle with the layout.

Hybrid workflow for digital and print

The platform has been set up as a single source of truth for content and figures. We can export financial tables and use them for the book version, so that updates to figures do not have to be manually re-entered each time. At the same time, Pryme wanted to maintain maximum control over the print layout, so we developed a hybrid workflow together. Content and tables come from Craft CMS, whilst the final book layout is finished with full control in InDesign. In addition, a print-ready PDF of the most recent version can be exported directly from the platform, which is useful for rapid iterations, whilst retaining the familiar visual constraints of automatic layout.
